late again

seriously guys, it’s late-ish. I would sound like SUCH a hypocrite to certain individuals if they were reading this cuz I was just going on about how 11:30 is NOT late the other night. Different context though!

Today I was chillin’ hard. Chill day. Bible reading, bible study lesson prepping, playing guitar, listening to a sermon, prayingggggggg & listening…. it was CHILL

Haha I got chinese food for dinner and there were several fortune cookies. One of them reads “It’s one of those low-key days that you’d rather spend just chilling” … yep that’s what I did!

the other one “just because you put tap shoes on an elephant doesn’t mean it can dance” hahahah 😀 that’s hilarious

And true. That’s actually how I’ve felt most of my life. Like an awkwardly balanced elephant trying to dance. Out of place, pretending to be something or someone I’m not. And just like that clumsy elephant stuck out like a sore thumb, I know that I did too. I was trying too hard. It’s just painful to see someone trying hard like that. It’s sad. And idk about you, it makes me angry. I just wanna be like “RELAX” ….. “Chill out!” …. “Calm down.”…………………. I even want to hug them and let them cry and collapse into my arms. I’m not even that motherly but I want to do this for people who are trying so hard.

I used to be one of them so I know how exhausting it is. I know how draining it is. I know how bad it feels when someone doesn’t recognize how much effort I put in to put on a face for them. Wrong motives and wrong reasons for living and acting enslave people. Life begins to seem futile after a while when we’re living to please ourselves or other imperfect people instead of living to please God.

I promise you, that if you start living to please God, and obey His Word in the bible, and trust that Jesus is Lord, life will get easier. Your definition of easy may be different than mine; but submitting to God and trusting His way brings peace. Rest. Peace that surpasses all understanding. Rest that can only be found in the savior.

Woooooooooo I’m falling asleep. More later friends. Ps. caramels make me sleepy. And chinese food.

second wind

11:22

wowwww I’m alive and awake! The Lord has been sustaining me …. and actually helping me thrive. I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo blessed. God gives me the tasks, and then He gives me the strength to complete the tasks. He gives me the grace to deal with hard-to-deal-with people and situations, and makes a way before me.

He goes before me and follows behind me. He hems me in from all sides and carries me; just like He did with Joshua and the Israelites in the bible. He made a way for them to finally get to the promised land of Canaan. And He did it in such an unexpected way… God parted the Jordan River. He stopped the flowing waters and provided dry ground for the Israelites to walk across on. Nobody predicted that or expected that. But that is so typical of God. The One True God of the bible is all powerful. Omnipotent. There is nothing that He cannot do. He is unstoppable. When His will is to give His people something, He will do so.

After parting the rushing waters of the Jordan and getting His people safely across, God then gave His people victory over the city of Jericho. And once again, God did it in an unexpected way. He told Joshua to lead the Israelites around the walled city of Jericho once a day for six days, and seven times on the seventh day. On the seventh day the people were to blow ram’s horns (shofars) and shout loudly. When they did this, the walls of Jericho came crashing down.

Can we pause for a second.

A city.

Surrounded by tall brick walls.

Stood no chance against

The Living God.

God is the creator of all things… He cannot be stopped by a brick wall.

Unlike us! We are faced with brick walls often, and see no other option than to turn back and give up. The bricks seem so final. So strong and powerful. So immovable

Yet God is the mover of bricks. He’s the melter of bricks. He can crumble bricks in his hand like you or I could crumble a cookie.

So when we call on the name of the Lord and ask Him to help us past a brick wall, we must know that He is more than able!!!!! What a small task for the God of the universe to perform! Christians, we MUST pray specifically, and often! How many walls are enclosing you into a place you want nothing more than to be out of because you haven’t prayed for God to crumble the wall around you? How many walls lay in front of you and block the path that leads to the desire of your heart and the center of God’s will for you?

I think God allows Satan to build or maintain walls in our lives to test our faith and see if we will call upon the Lord’s power and not just wallow in our own self-pity and weakness, and stop moving towards the best that God has for us.

What’s your wall? What’s blocking you and stopping you from advancing the kingdom of God? What’s stopping your ministry? What hiccups are you dealing with?

Remember, this is not a physical war we are in; it’s a spiritual war. But the physical is affected by the spiritual. We have to remember that calling upon the Lord in all situations is the only way that we win the daily battles in this life. The war is already won, but the battles continue on each day, each hour.

Let’s take more time to cease everything and pray to God, asking Him to break down the walls in our lives that are boxing us in or preventing us from moving forward.

Praise God that He is more than able! <3

haircut and dancing

had to get a haircut, so I did. Usually i have a friend do it, but I really needed one so I stopped in Great Clips and got a shampoo and trim. It was maaaaaaaahvelous. I feel like a whole new woman now. Except the perpetual tiredness thing. But uhh I’m going to ignore that because I’m going dancing tonight 😀 <3

Yesss bachata and salsa, here we come! I have work til 7 and am then hittin’ da road. It’s in Virginia beach so I have an hour drive ahead of me. I should probably download some salsa songs onto my phone so I can practice the beat. It’s difficult! Dancing salsa is weird and foreign to me because it’s on the 8 count. But I will learn… eventually I will learn!

Actually, this weekend I may take a lesson. Saturday night? I got a groupon for some private salsa classes, and I know some of them are done on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings. I am going to call ASAP. Maybe right now? Or tomorrow or Thursday. Haha the guy who owns the studio answers his own phone, which tells me it’s a small studio. In fact, the number I called seemed like it was a cell phone number? I hope it’s not a creepy situation! He asked me if I wanted private lessons for me and a partner or just me. I laughed and said “just me” and instantly regretted it. A couple days later I did tell a friend about the classes and he seemed interested so maybe I will try to recruit him to go with me… Then it would be less weird.  We shall see.

So

I wonder how many guys I will dance with tonight! It’s sooooooooo much fun to dance with so many different types of dancers! Last time I went to this Latin dance social two weeks ago, I danced with people of all ages and soo many different styles of dancing. I just gotta be careful not to get wrapped up in that sensual bachata stuff tonight. It’s hard because it is so easy to do, and some guys really enjoy doing it, so it’s a little awkward to throw the guard up and say no, though there are subtle ways to do that: like by putting my hand against the man’s shoulder instead of resting on his shoulder. And if he still doesn’t take the hint after that, then pushing up against the dude should finish sending the message!

Hopefully I just won’t have to deal with that tonight. Also, I think I will tell the dude up front that I don’t want to dance sensually; that I want to keep space between myself and him. Uggggggh I just remembered, I might see this one dude that hmu the next day a couple times who I completely ignored. #facepalm

Welp, gotta carry on! I’m super excited to go and hope my energy will be up and I will have fun! One of my girlfriends (at least one) will be there tonight as well, which is always comforting, and more fun!

I will give an update later tonight.

===================================================================

update:

just got to my cousin’s house from dancing. Ohmuhgaaah dancing is soooo much fun. I’ve been told I’m a natural at it and lots of people can’t believe that I just learned about bachata and how to do it three weeks ago. I know I’m a fast learner but staying consistent is where I have trouble. Being consistently great at something. Buuuuuuut for the first time I am now following the lead of the Holy Spirit in everything I do. I’m pretty excited to see how He will use me in my dancing!

Praise God for dancing and music. Expression of the body. Rhythm. It’s so wonderful! I could go on and on and on about how much fun it is! haha maybe I should become a dance instructor. Suppose I should continue learning how to dance first. Plus, following the lead of a male is probably way easier than taking the role of leader as the male has. I can follow well and look like I know what I’m doing but really I’m just following 😉 I mean, it takes some submission buuuut

PS. My salsa was wayyy better than last week! It surely helps when you’re dancing with someone who knows how to dance too 😉

I’m excited for next week. Hopefully I can keep on doing this Tuesday thing. Also, pretty soon I’ma reveal some crazy birthday planz that I have. I turn 26 on October 26 so there’s that.

Life is good and exciting, and God is even better and bigger and more exciting.

Have a blessed night y’all, and keep your eyes on Jesus <3 <3

Sunday eve

Hello everyone

It’s been a few days since I’ve written. I haven’t been home since Friday. I guess that doesn’t sound like that long of a time, but so much has happened that it feel rather long. I was on a camping trip this past weekend in Virginia Beach. Friday night when I was supposed to go, I did NOT feel like it at all. I was ssoooooooooo tired. Maybe this getting less sleep thing is actually a hoax and my body can’t keep up with it.

But honestly, eating less definitely makes me feel better! I have been eating too much all my freakin’ life. Sooooooooo yeah eating less ===> I feel better. AWESOME

I am FREEEEEEEEE

Thaank you Jesus! He has taught me how to eat correctly and not be afraid of any food. He is teaching me self control more and more each day. Praise God! Praise and worship and honor to the Only Wise King!

And now I must sleep. I can’t think of anything exciting to write right now.

More tomorrow I tink. Just too tired.

he stole a kiss

and I’m not happy about it.

I met him last night. He was an acquaintance of my friend. I say was because he’s in the past, as far as I’m concerned.

She introduced us from 20 feet away. He was sitting, and I was standing near my friend and another acquaintance. He looked deeply into my eyes. He really looked at me and was intrigued. He was captivated.

I thought he was cute. After my friend and I departed, I told her that he was cute. My friend said “I know!” And then I asked her if he was single, and she said “yes”. And then I asked her if he loved Jesus, and she said “yes!”.

She told me that he is usually there on Wednesday nights for the open mic. There are actually a couple of different open mics down there. She asked me if I would want to come sometime. I suggested next Wednesday.

She showed me his Facebook and his tagline won my heart. It was something along the lines of “I love puns, theology and being awkward”. I turned to Maria and said “I think I’ve found my husband. Please tell him my ring finger is size 6.”

She laughed but I kept looking at him. How cool is this. Puns are one of my past times. I enjoy theology. Awkward has been known to be my spiritual gift (credit to my friend JP who introduced me to this line! <3 )

We were on the 2nd floor of a parking garage and people kept coming up the stairs to go home. It was just before 11pm. I kept hoping he would come up the stairs and we would talk. He didn’t.

My friend left. I left. 20 minutes later she texted me and said “the craziest thing happened concerning you. Can I call you?” And I just knew that he had reached out to her about me.

His stares were too intense. He asked me my name a couple times and repeated it back to me.

She called me and said “He wants to take you out on a date on Friday, but I told him you were busy. Can I give him your number?” I said yes.

He texted me last night and asked if I could get dinner Friday. I said I was busy. He asked me when I was free. I said today at 5pm.

We met at 5 and had coffee. At 6 he asked if I wanted sushi. Is the earth flat? No, but I definitely wanted sushi.

Hehe

We talked for the first hour of coffee. We talked during sushi 30-45 minutes. He was cute. But I had seen enough. I knew I wasn’t interested.

His mind just wasn’t as strong as mine. He wouldn’t be able to lead me well because I couldn’t respect him properly. It seemed like his head was ~inthecloudsish…. and like he wasn’t free in Christ. He wasn’t paying attention. He said he loved puns, but I made one and he didn’t get it. He even repeated it back to me and said “right, yeah”. I’m not saying everyone is expected to get every pun I tell, but that one was blatant. I noticed he did that a lot. He repeated literally what I had just said right back to me. I said “that sushi was sooo good” and he was like “that sushi was so good”.

Yeah. It was bad.

We left the restaurant and were nearing the end of the date. I could tell he was having a good time and didn’t want to go. I was leading. The man is supposed to lead. But he wasn’t on top of his crap. He couldn’t lead me well if he wasn’t on top of things.

By the way, that’s oKAY. Not everyone can be on top of their crap all the time. I am fallin’ off constantly. Which is why we need God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit and the bible fresh daily.

But

I don’t have to settle for just any relationship. And I won’t.

So he walked me to my car and I could tell he wanted to kiss me. I didn’t want to kiss him.

I went in for a hug and he hugged me, but then he held me there and got close to my face. My whole body resisted and he said “is this okay?” and I said “umm actually –” but I never got to finish my sentence.

Because he kissed me anyway????

After he asked me if it was okay???

But didn’t wait for my response?!?!?

…….

…….

…….

He obviously didn’t give a damn what my response was! He only knew what he wanted. To kiss me. And so he did. Even though I resisted and tried not to.

No. It isn’t okay. He was serving himself only and not caring about my desires, preferences, or feelings.

If you ask somebody if something is okay, have the DECENCY to let the other person respond. Haste makes WASTE.

I already knew that I didn’t want to go out with this guy again, so the stolen kiss didn’t make it or break it, but if I had been into this guy, the stolen kiss might’ve broken it.

Be considerate of others! Serve others and not yourself! Stop living to take. Live to give! Give to live! Giving is life-giving!

Giving is better than receiving. But forcing one upon another person is NOT cool. Don’t assume people want to kiss you either.

That is all.

God gave me a job

Yes He did.

And it was NOT the job that I wanted. In fact, it’s the exact opposite of what I’ve been telling everyone that I want. My preference has been to have a companionship caregiving job where I sit and eat and talk and eat and sit with my clients. Occasional grocery store runs or trips to the doctor’s office. Tasks around the house. And free time.

So I told everyone I know, and even some random people I’d never met before, that I wanted this type of job. 😀 And then I got a phone call.

It was a lady from my church, who had been on my heart for several days. If you aren’t a christian and don’t understand what this means, basically I was thinking about her. She was on my mind and heart and I thought about reaching out to her. And I had a feeling that she knew somebody in need. And ba-da-BANG she called me. And she said that she had been meaning to call me for a few days. Ha! I shoulda been like “yeahh girl you were on my heart and it was getting kind of uncomfortable!”

She told me that she hesitated in calling me about this job because it is not glamorous. That she was having a hard time doing it herself. That she understood if I wanted to say no. I told her I wanted to meet this lady. On Sunday, I met her.

She is helpless. She is 4 weeks deceased by her husband and bedridden for the most part. Can’t get out of her bed by herself. Needs HELP. She told me her story for about an hour straight. And then asked me “So, are you going to help me?”

And I drew a blank. I stared at her blankly… And blinked once or twice. About 7 seconds later, she burst into tears. “Is there something wrong with me?! Am I asking too much?” She began to question why it was that she couldn’t get anybody to help her.

Part of me wanted to say “girl, you a mess” and walk out, praying for her on the way out the doe.

Part of me didn’t want to help her or deal with her mess. Her sad situation. Her helplessness. I wanted someone else to do it.

And then I heard the words of Jesus in my mind and heart. “Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me”. I knew I had to help her.

So I told Fear to hit the road, and I started helping her — B. We’ll call her B.

Ummm and I love it……………………….

BECAUSE GUESS WHAT…

GOD

KNOWS

BEST.

And He knew what I NEEDED. And usually what I WANT and what I NEED are very different. And VELVET is not good at choosing what is good for her. And GOD always points me back to the Truth, places the right steps before me, and walks with me, step by step, in the way that I should go. And when I let him, he carries me. Even though I want to do it myself.

But when I do it myself I choose wrong.

So I praise God for this job. This opportunity to help someone in need. So much need. It’s been wonderful this week and I am very excited about helping her more and more, and praying that Jesus heals her.

God is good all the time. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, and His ways higher than our ways. Praise God.

Because I choose selfishness. I choose isolation. I choose laziness. And despite my choices, God gives great gifts that I don’t deserve. And He takes care of His people. It’s a promise!

performing

for anyone is a waste of energy and a mistake. It is absolutely exhausting to try to perform for other people. And the saddest part about the whole thing is that people can see right through you. Most people, I mean. Because eventually you won’t be able to keep it up. Or, they will just get sick of your fakeness because it is not life-giving. It actually robs you and them of life. It’s counterfeit and wasteful.

Golly

I spent years putting on a face. Holding my breath. Being stiff. And now I’m learning how to relax. Being a practiced eggshell walker is difficult. It’s time and energy consuming and quite stressful. It’s like walking through a room full of lasers where you have to go to great lengths to hold your breath and tip-toe juuuuuuuuuust right so you don’t set off an alarm.

Avoiding setting off an alarm. That’s stressful. Being soooo careful. On edge. On alert. On the edge of your seat, the edge of a cliff. Feeling in danger, and like things could go haywire at any point.

That’s how I spent most of my life growing up. Performing, holding my breath. Trying to appear like I was more together than I was. Pretending to know what people were talking about instead of saying “I’m so sorry, I have no idea what you’re talking about, could you please explain that?”. Asking a question like that and explaining it took way too much effort though. It was almost easier in a way to pretend and go along with whatever the other person was saying. Unfortunately, this ends up leading to much bigger messes pretty much every time.

Hmm.

I’m still learning. Have come a long way, but am definitely still learning.

So back to not performing. When I get out and serve others and don’t have a chance to sit around and mope about myself and my flaws I tend to perform less because I don’t have time to overthink everything that I am saying and doing or what I overthink I should be saying or doing.

Rugged cycle. Praise God for pulling me out of that. Out of those lies that swam in my head lap after lap without ceasing. Back and forth, under, over. Always crossing my mind and reminding me of how tired I was.

Not anymore though. I have incredible amounts of energy now that I’m not performing anymore. It takes energy to perform. To act. To be someone you are not. It’s much easier to be yourself. Flaws and all. I am happy to be me, and know that God uses me specifically every day in thousands of different ways that I can’t even begin to figure out.

Not performing. It feels good…….. I am not there yet though; don’t get me wrong. I still find myself wanting to perform for somebody so they will like me, love me, approve of me, accept me. Funny concept though; since when I STOP performing I am liked much more. When I stop focusing on mySELF and start focusing on GOD I am more confident, more fun, more joy-filled, energetic and in a good place mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically to serve other people. Your mind, body and soul are all connected. There’s no question about it.

How you feel and how you act are connected. If you feel down in the dumps, you may want to rest or sleep or sulk and be alone. Then let’s say your crush walks in the room. Are you going to continue to mope around, or are you gonna lift your head up and smile and be aware of how you’re acting. The latter is definitely the case. We want to impress and be likeable so we can be liked.

Sometimes in order to act better, we need to feel better. Sometimes in order to feel better, we need to act differently; by pouring out to other people and finding someone else to serve than your Self.

It’s rewarding. OH so rewarding.

Still praisin’ God for my job; still amazed at God’s goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and love and compassion for me. I thank Him for giving me tasks to do that focus me on others instead of just me.

More later. I’ve hit a WALL of tired.

STOP PERFORMING AND GO TO BED VELVET

night owl

I feel like I’m growing feathers and turning into a night owl. It’s weird

It has been years that I’ve gone to bed freakin’ early and convinced myself I need 9 hours of sleep. Okay, that includes the time it takes to fall asleep but still. I have always heard about those people that only need 6 hours of sleep and I’ve been like nahhhh …. wait … what’s wrong wichu?

But I think it’s a thing. I will say, this did not happen overnight. My body has gotten a lot healthier over the last few years and I’m more resilient and strong and have more endurance about life in general. I can people for longer, go without getting sick (!!!!!!!!!!!!) for a long time

Actually I’ma camp on that statement for a little bit becowz (as my  Spanish teacher in college used to say… “Becowz I’m a meh-hee-can woe-man”) it is truly significant. It’s evidence that God has changed me. I used to get sick a lot and would get bad stuff that last 7-10 days. We talkin’ bein’ in my bed for 7-10 days, feelin’ like doodoo and not getting any better. hahahah I’m so sorry I just said doodoo. I can’t even use the excuse that I’m tired because I just said that whole thing about becoming a night owl! Gah I annoy myself.

I have to be up in 7 hours so I can help my new client before I go to a meeting. LOL I’m actually sleeping at her house right now. I just can’t stay at home. *Shrug*

Well, I should be there tomorrow night which will be nice. And hopefully my cousin will stay with me! I think she is also going to work for the lady I just started with which is good! We’ll find out tomorrow after she meets her.

Good news……… today I got a check from the family who I was considered the “Adopted granddaugher” at. And they hooked a sista up. Like, they only owed me $500. And they gave me $1400

money errwerr.gif

Yesssssss GOD IS SO GOOD! I am no longer worrying about making enough money this month! 😀 😀 😀

I was worried becowz when George passed away, I be out of work anddd stuff. BUT GOD CAME THRU AS USUAL!

Work is good

Dancing has been super fun

uhhh I was supposed to tell y’all about the other reason why I couldn’t sleep the other night but I’ma hold off on that for a while until I can recalculate my spidey senses.

The thing is, idk if they spidey, orrr whack. Hahahahhah we shall see, we shall see

Mmk probably enough for now. It’s been good to be writing more lately. Keep your eyes peeled for some youtube stuff I’ma share with y’all. In the meantime, go check out my channel:

Pursuit

I don’t have one and don’t know if I ever will. Currently I am working to pay off my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. At this rate I will be debt free by the end of 2019! Budgeting has been super fun and rewarding and I’m excited to have the goal in sight.

Once I’m debt free I can think about what’s next on my plate. Missions? More schooling? Master’s in biblical counseling? Writing degree? So many different options. Marriage? Ha I can’t choose that one though 😉

Well I sort of can, but it’s not something I want to rush into or do for the sake of doing it. That sounds pointless to even type, but so many people do rush into marriage and are unpleasantly surprised with the results. They expect it to be something different. They expect it to fill them and be their end-all.

I haven’t been married, but I know there’s only one end-all: Jesus Christ. He is the one and only being that can truly satisfy me. And it starts now. He satisfies NOW.

I am full because he makes me whole. I am full because I am victorious in him. I am full because I have peace with God. I am full because I know He is with me and will never leave me. He’s a promise keeper!

bachata ain’t grinding

Here we are again. In the wee hours. Well, actually I tend to think of 3am as the wee hours. 2 is just a late night. It’s weird cuz for the last few years I’ve been going to bed earlies. Lately I’ve been going to bed much later.

Lessons I’ve learned today and tonight: a repetition of what I continue to learn day after day: my worth comes from God. A job does not define my worth. My body does not define my worth. A relationship does not define my worth. And my drive and my prize should be my Lord, Jesus Christ. He is who I live for. Nothing and nobody else.

Especially not myself. So when I dance bachata, I won’t settle for sensual dancing. I won’t settle for getting too close with guys. I will raise the bar from the beginning of the dance and let them know that I dance with space between my partner and myself so as to respect each other. Let’s put it like this: if I were married, I wouldn’t want my husband to dance that way with another woman. So I shouldn’t dance that way with a man who isn’t my husband! It’s also confusing to get all touchy-feely with someone on the dance floor like that and not develop some sort of feeling for them. Or they might develop some feeling for you.

It’s not the best. It is not God’s best for me. AND it doesn’t glorify God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God”. I can’t honestly stand behind sensual bachata as bringing glory to God. I can’t. If it were with my husband, that form of sexual expression would be pleasing to Him as an act of love for my husband. But gettin’ all sexual up on the dance floor with non-husbands isn’t good for my christian testimony.

Mm. So that’s where I’m at. Many parts of bachata just is sensual. It’s a romantic dance. It’s very expressive and beautiful and free-flowing. But rubbing all up on each other is unnecessary, and definitely isn’t how bachata dancing has always been. That form has trickled in from selfish human hearts wanting to seek pleasure on the dance floor. It’s kindof like the judaizers in the bible times. They had to add all sorts of man-made rules to salvation. Sensual bachata is adding aspects to the dance that were never intended to be parts of the dance. Hmmm

That one may be a stretch, but the point is, bachata in itself is a wonderful dance, expression, way to spend time. The sensual aspect doesn’t feel right because it wasn’t intended to be bachata. Grinding is not bachata. Let’s keep it that way.

To all you new dancers out there, set your bar high! Be aware of the sensual aspect of bachata, and know that you don’t have to settle for it. There are some amazing moves that can be done in bachata, and the sensual stuff is so easy… Challenge yourself. Raise the bar to be classy, clean and make it clear to your partner that you came to dance not grind. You came to dance.

2:35am. Time for bed? I can’t keep up with freakin’ not sleeping. I’m not a vampire!

Thoughts are welcome!
