Actually Listening

What does God really want for your life?

It’s too easy to make plans for ourselves, thinking that we know best and that we have all of the answers. We want to do things for the wrong reasons, and we don’t put God first in our lives.

When I decided I wanted to go to Nicaragua this winter, I didn’t consult with God as much as I should have. Would travelling to Central America glorify Him? Would it bring me closer to Him? Is always leaving and travelling really benefitting me or anyone else in my life?

After all, constantly travelling takes me away from all the people in my life that I love most. Don’t get me wrong, I love to travel. I love to see the new sights, smell the new smells, bask in the aura of unfamiliarity of being who I am in a completely new place, where nobody knows me. It’s extremely romantic and exciting…

But when God puts a halt on travel plans, we have to trust Him. Now’s not the right time. It wasn’t the right place. He needs you more somewhere else. He plans to use you somewhere else. He plans to speak and move through you.

In God We Trust. But do we really? When plans fall through and hopes are crushed, will we trust in Him and His plans for our future? I hope so. That doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy. Faith can be difficult sometimes.

Letting everything go and saying

“Dear God, I give everything to you. I give you my body, soul, and spirit to do with whatever you will. I trust you to use me as you will to spread your gospel and love, and bring mine and other’s hearts and minds closer to you. You know me better than I could ever know myself and you know what’s best for me”

is difficult. But life wasn’t ever supposed to be easy.

If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever.”

1 Peter 4:11

God has a plan for you.

He loves you all. I love you all. It’s all going to be okay. Trust in Him.
